We have tried to answer some of the questions our customers often ask. If you cannot find an answer to your question, please do not hesitate to contact us.

How difficult is it to get my book published?
It really is quite straightforward. DaySprings Publishing prides itself on excellent customer service and support, creative ability, technical information, and the highest quality book printing and binding; all at an affordable price. The process of getting your book into print is simple, and can be very rewarding.

How many copies of my book should I print?
To avoid exposing authors to unnecessary financial risk, we advise our first-time writers to print between 250 to 500 books as their first print run. This initial print is to help gauge market response to whatever promotional activities the author embarks on. Of course it depends on the author, because some authors, especially pastors and public speakers have a ready audience sometimes numbering in the thousands. If you are such a person, you may opt to print a couple of thousands for your first print run.

Why should I self-publish?
Self-publishing gives authors an avenue for getting their books into print at little cost and at low risk. The flexibility one gets from self publishing makes it possible to have as few or as many copies of a book printed as required, thus limiting your financial exposure. Also self-publishing is ideal for new writers who want to gauge the audience's reaction to their book before committing themselves further. Self publishing gives you a chance to get your book out and avoid the frustration of being constantly rejected by regular publishers.

Do I supply my own page layout?
Page layout is included at no charge in our standard packages.

Do you offer book cover design?
Yes. Our designers provide professional cover design from our cover templates at no additional cost to our customers. Custom cover design is offered as part of our Aspire, Premium and Bestseller packages.

How do I go about getting a copyright for my book?
Copyright is automatically applied to all original works -literary, dramatic, musical and artistic. You do not necessarily have to register your copyright to have protection. However registration can be helpful if your work is infringed upon. You can find out more about Canadian copyright regulations on the Canadian Intellectual Property website. For US copyright regulations, you can check the Library of Congress website.  DaySprings will charge $100 to process your copyright registration in Canada and $150 to process it in the US.

What is a proof?
A proof is a printout of your book's pages and cover design. The purpose of a proof is to check for errors before the job is printed.

Do I receive a proof of my book?
Yes. We will provide a proof copy of your book and cover image for your approval via email or by post.

How do royalties get paid out?
Unlike traditional publishers, we do not pay royalties. The book is yours, so you get to keep all the profits - simple. We do not take any money from your book sales.

How do I submit my finished manuscript for printing?
Submit your manuscript via email or CD in a format that can be edited. We prefer to work with Microsoft Word or other similar word processing software. You can also send your manuscript in text format if you do not have compatible software. We do not recommend sending your manuscript by .pdf unless you want us to publish it 'as is' with no changes. In the event that you only have a paper typewritten version of your manuscript, we charge $2.50 per page to scan using Optical Character Recognition software.

How long does the process take?
Every job has its own unique set of variables, but generally, the process takes approximately 6-8 weeks. However, if we have to assist with ghostwriting, then the process could take much longer.

Once I've had my book produced, how do I get a reprint done?
Reprinting your book is really easy. We store each book as a digital file. Just contact us whenever you need the book reprinted, and we will get on it straight away. It is also approximately 15% cheaper when you reprint.

Do I maintain the copyright to my book?
Absolutely. It is your book, period. As long as you are the original author, copyright will be in your name.

How much does it cost to produce each book?
The price of producing a book depends on the number of pages and the physical size of the finished book. If your order details are not covered by our package price list, please contact us and we will get you a quote within 24 hours.
